what do mean by show and tell in school (pre-k) - elephant, turtle, cats, etc?

Hi!

I am a little bit confused with the activity in school (first timer - my apology). Every week they have a show and tell. This coming week, they have "turtle show and tell", what does this mean? Last week they did elephant show and tell - i asked one of the teacher assistant (main teacher very busy) told me to bring a toy, so i had her bring her favorite toy - cat. come to find out my daughter said that it's not the one they're looking for. does this mean if they want elephant to bring elephant or turtle? i am kinda upset because my 4 y.o, daughter feels like she's been out of place. I know this are simple stuff but it's a big deal for me as a first time mom.

If someone can enlighten me, any inputs is highly appreciated. Thank you.

each week your child will have 'show and tell' in the classroom. the 'show and tell' will have a theme. this week was turtles. this means your child can bring anything to class that has to do with turtles (stuffed turtle, storybook about turtles, pictures of turtles, etc). then when your child's turn comes during circle time, the child gets up and talks about what they brought. this gives the child a chance to participate in public speaking, and sharing with the class.
